Magical Makeup Monday: January IPSY Bag Review

“Let’s talk girl stuff.”

So let’s jump right into this. My Ipsy bag this month contained some things I liked, but was also rather underwhelming.

Here’s what I received:
1. Jelly Pong Pong Coffee + Coconut Lip Scrub which retails for $19.00/.35 fl. oz.
2. Temptu Base Smooth & Matte Primer which retails for $35.00.
3. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Anti-Aging Concealer which retails for $24.00/.28 fl. oz.
4. Manna Kadar Cosmetics Fantasy 3-in-1 Eyeshadow which retails for $19.00.
5. Pacifica BLUSHIOUS in Wildrose which retails for $12.00.

Definitely a great bag as far as bang for your buck. There are a lot of products included that retail at a pretty pricey rate, however, Ipsy sends sample-sized items.

I’m going to start with my favorite items first:

Jelly Pong Pong Coffee + Coconut Lip Scrub was img_20170124_192516phenomenal. Lately, I’ve been into sugar lip scrubs in general, so I was v pleased to find this in my bag! I think it’s extremely important to exfoliate and moisturize your lips before bed as well as before applying that sexy lipstick for a night out on the town. I find that products apply and soak up so much more effectively after using a lip scrub, and it’s an easy step to incorporate into your nightly routine! For those of you who may not be a fan of lip scrubs, maybe give this one a try, as it is not as “stiff” or “rough” as others can be (not that I mind that). This scrub has more of a jelly consistency that I think certain beauty fans might like better.

Temptu Base Smooth & Matte Primer
is a lot better than I expected! Now, it’s not like… life changing. But it is certainly worth re-purchasing in my opinion. The application is a dream and it feels buttery smooth once it’s on the skin. Final verdict: it keeps me 50% more matte than if I don’t wear primer at all. Could I find a cheaper option that achieves the same results? Probably.

Manna Kadar Cosmetics Fantasy 3-in-1 Eyeshadow proved its pigment and color in one swatch, and I am very excited to wear this out on the inner corner of my eye as a nice brightening technique. This is a stunning shimmery pink that would pair well with a light brown in the crease and medium/dark brown on the outer-v.

Now the remaining items I was “meh” about:

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Illumination Anti-Aging Concealer was the wrong shade for me. Case closed. Seemed like a thick, full-coverage consistency and I tried using it to cover up blemishes (they gave me medium when I definitely needed light), but even then it was the wrong shade. Therefore, I cannot accurately review this product.

I thought my sample was so cute and tiny sitting in my elephant’s trunk.

Pacifica BLUSHIOUS in Wildrose was my least favorite product. The product did not hold much pigment, I could barely swatch it on my arm, and when I applied it to the apples of my cheeks I couldn’t even tell I was wearing blush. This was not a win for me, and I will probably give this away to a friend.

Don’t forget to review and rate your Ipsy products as a way to earn points towards choosing a FREE BONUS item in your next bag!

In related news: I’m thinking about giving Boxycharm a go around. Any thoughts or recommendations? I’ve seen KathleenLights reveal her boxes for a few months now, and the intrigue is beginning to overwhelm me. Let me know in the comments below if you’ve tried Boxycharm or any other beauty subscription you think I should try!

Xoxo,

    1. Girl, preach! I am LOVING it. Saw it retails for $19 so debating whether I’ll repurchase it… maybe I’ll stock up while Ipsy offers the discount tehe 😛
